My Background in Music

Initially trained as a Western classical musician from the age of 4, I played the piano and cello for about 12 years before devoting myself to dance and taking a break from music. I returned to music more than two decades later in 2020 when I began training in avaaz and setar. My primary teachers are Mahin Mohajer (avaaz), Shahin Fayaz (setar), and Fared Shafinury (avaaz, setar).

My intention to sing comes from a desire to use my voice in beautiful, powerful, and meaningful ways. Now that I am returning to music with the lens of an energy healer, I see singing as an opportunity to use the body as a vessel to experience emotional healing and energetic release within, to create a vibration of healing in the environment.

*Avaaz (which loosely translates as “voice” or “song” in Persian) refers to the classical vocal tradition of Iran that is based on the dastgāh modal system and sung mainly to classical Persian verses of poetry. The setar is a Persian stringed lute that is played solo or accompanying voice.
